Abby is fast approaching the tail end of her first year on earth and as usual she’s ever growing and changing. The most exciting development in Abby’s world this month was that my girl started saying Mama! It is usually said when she is tired, cranky, or sad, but hey, isn’t that when you need a mama the most? Hearing her call me by name is music to my ears.
Beyond “mama”, Abby has said “Hi”, “Bye’, and “meow”. She is also consistently signing “more” to request food. We are still working on “all done”. She would prefer to scream instead 😉
Speaking of screaming…Abby has entered a fun new stage where she tantrums when she doesn’t get her way. She tantrums when I won’t let her do things like go face first down the stairs or climb into the refrigerator. I am such a mean mom!

Abby’s understanding of language is improving as well. She knows the dog says woof, and the other night when Matt asked her where the dog was, she pointed right to Selby! Should we sign her up for college classes yet?
Always the good eater, Abby has gotten more excited about using a spoon and she has nearly mastered a fork! However when she gets REALLY excited, she throws all caution to the wind and goes straight for the bowl.
Abby now loves to open and close doors, gates and cupboards. She is already trying to shut her parents out of her room!
Abby loves to stand near the furniture now and uses her activity center and push cart to move around the living room. She isn’t ready to walk away from the furniture yet, but I’m sure that is coming soon! For now, she knows that she can crawl at warp speed and would prefer to move around that way. She’s not exactly what you would call stealth, and you can hear her coming as she babbles her way towards Mommy or Daddy with her hands slapping on the hardwood floor 🙂

This time next month, Abby will be celebrating her first birthday and we will be calling her a toddler!
