It’s hard to believe that this time last year I was nervously preparing to run my very first race. A 5k near the Columbia Gorge. Since then I have run a handful of 5ks, a 15k, and have been lucky enough to participate in the infamous Hood to Coast relay race, with my portion totaling almost 16 miles.
I’ve been a runner on and off since grad school. I enjoy the runner’s high, crossing over to that point of fitness where your lungs don’t burn and your legs don’t hurt and you feel like you could run forever. Running has helped me through so many challenges in my life. It has been an escape from stress and given me mental, physical and spiritual strength.
While, Abby is not yet a runner, she is very supportive of my running and even acts as a trainer and coach. When I run on the treadmill at home, she yells “faster, faster”!
Now that I have overcome the fear of entering a race, I look forward to challenging myself with new and harder races. Just recently I committed to a half marathon! I can’t wait to see what other great running adventures are in store for my future!
